We bring people together through Kintsugi - mending broken pieces and creating meaningful connections.
Hi! I’m Emi
The Kintsugi Room is a Japanese ceramic restoration project founded by artist and maker Emi Kato Jones, rooted in the belief that what is broken can be repaired, honored, and made even more beautiful. Through one-of-a-kind Kintsugi pieces and intimate small-group workshops, Emi is building a community in Los Angeles through the shared practice of Kintsugi—creating space for people to slow down, connect, and find beauty in imperfection.
Emi was born in Seto City, Aichi, one of Japan’s oldest and most renowned pottery towns. She grew up in her grandmother’s hillside home, surrounded by anagama kilns and a family lineage deeply connected to ceramics. That early connection to clay and Japanese craft eventually led her back to Japan in 2024, where she spent about a year studying Kintsugi in Nagoya and Ichinokura under master artisans.
Today, The Kintsugi Room carries that tradition forward in Los Angeles, bringing together Japanese craftsmanship, storytelling, and community. Each piece and gathering is an invitation to embrace the marks of time, celebrate repair, and connect with others through the quiet, meaningful process of Kintsugi.
Modern Kintsugi Workshop
Slow down and enjoy a mindful art experience in my Modern Kintsugi Workshop. Over about 2 and half to 3 hours, you’ll create a beautifully repaired Kintsugi piece and a small Kintsugi crane, embracing patience, texture, and story. Leave with your own finished pieces and a sense of calm satisfaction.
* All materials are provided. Feel free to bring a ceramic item if you want to repair your own. I will evaluate its suitability during the workshop.
* Bring eyeglasses for close-up work if you need them
